There’s something about this painting I keep returning to…over and over. I came across it a few years ago, I don’t know how or where, but was mesmerized by it. It took me several months to find it again. Once I did I didn’t let it go.
It was painted in 1858 by Paul Weber, and entitled Scene in the Catskills. For me, it captures a feeling. Or better yet it leads me to a quiteness that my redemeeded heart longs for. Maybe it represents a sacred space and beauty that I’m seeking, maybe it reminds me of my calling to live a peaceful and quiet life in the Lord. Maybe it shows me that I was created for more than concrete and automobiles, but for spaces and places to breathe in the prescense of the one who created it all.
